Description

Each gram contains: Active substance: Doxycycline 500 mg (equivalent to doxycycline hyclate 577 mg); Yellow powder. INDICATIONS: Pigs : treatment of respiratory infections caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae and Pasteurella multocida susceptible to doxycycline. Chickens and turkeys: treatment of respiratory infections associated with Mycoplasma gallisepticum susceptible to doxycycline. TARGET SPECIES: Pigs (pigs for fattening), chickens (broilers and chickens for breeding) and turkeys (turkeys for meat production and turkeys for breeding). DOSAGE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION: For oral use, in drinking water. Dosage: In pigs and chickens 20 mg doxycycline/kg body weight per day (equivalent to 40 mg product/kg body weight), administered in drinking water, for 5 consecutive days. In turkeys 25 mg doxycycline/kg body weight per day (equivalent to 50 mg product/kg body weight), administered in drinking water, for 5 consecutive days. To ensure correct dosing, body weight should be determined as accurately as possible. The consumption of medicated water depends on the clinical condition of the animals. In order to obtain the correct dosage, it may be necessary to adjust the concentration in the drinking water. The use of suitably calibrated weighing equipment is recommended in case of partial use of the packages. The daily amount should be added to the drinking water so that the entire medication is consumed within 24 hours. The medicated drinking water should be freshly prepared every 24 hours. It is recommended to prepare a pre-concentrated solution (approximately 50 product per litre of drinking water) and further dilute it to therapeutic concentrations if necessary. The maximum solubility of the product in water is 50 g/l. Alternatively, the concentrated solution can be used in a proportional water dosing device. Free access to the drinking facility should be ensured for all animals to be treated. At the end of treatment, the drinking equipment should be cleaned adequately to avoid ingestion of any remaining sub-therapeutic doses. Medicated water should be the only source of drinking water for the entire duration of the treatment period. Medicated water should not be prepared or stored in a metal container and should not be used in oxidized drinking equipment. The solubility of the product is pH dependent and will precipitate if mixed in an alkaline solution.
