Description
Loxicom (meloxicam) 5mg/ml Solution for Injection (generic to Metacam) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medication for the control of pain and inflammation in dogs and cats. Indications: Cats: For the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with orthopedic surgery, ovariohysterectomy and castration when administered prior to surgery. Dogs: For the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis. Dosage for Administration: Cats: Administer a single, one-time subcutaneous dose of Loxicom 5 mg/ml Solution for Injection to cats at a dose of 0.14 mg/lb (0.3 mg/kg) body weight. Use of additional meloxicam or other NSAIDs is contraindicated. To ensure accuracy of dosing, the use of a 1 ml graduated syringe is recommended. Do not use meloxicam in cats with pre-existing renal dysfunction. Dogs: Administer initially as a single dose at 0.09 mg/lb (0.2 mg/kg) body weight intravenously or subcutaneously followed, after 24 hours, by meloxicam oral suspension at the daily dose of ..045 mg/lb (0.1 mg/kg) body weight, either mixed with food or placed directly in the mouth. Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian Contraindications: Dogs with known hypersensitivity to meloxicam should not receive Loxicom Oral Suspension. Do not use Loxicom Oral Suspension in cats. Acute renal failure and death have been associated with the use of meloxicam in cats. Do administer additional injectable meloxicam to cats. Store at controlled room temperature 59-86°F (15-30°C).
