Diuren 20 mg is a veterinary medicine for large breed dogs, indicated in cases of salt and water retention of cardiac, hepatic, renal origin and localized edema of various origins and nature. Pack of 30 tablets. WARNINGS Special precautions for use in animals: in the case of continuous therapy of chronic forms it is necessary to plan periodic clinical and laboratory checks to evaluate possible phenomena of dehydration and/or electrolyte imbalance and verify renal function. In this case it may also be appropriate to supplement the diet with potassium or foods rich in this element to avoid risks of hypokalemia. See also 4.3. (Contraindications), 4.6. Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the product to animals: not applicable. Furosemide has low acute and chronic toxicity (the LD50 of oral Furosemide in dogs is > 2,000 mg/kg), the therapeutic index is therefore very high (80 – 100). Toxic doses cause ataxia, paralysis and cardiovascular collapse: animals at such doses are dehydrated and depleted of electrolytes due to massive diuresis and saluresis. STORAGE This veterinary medicinal product does not require any particular storage temperature. After each use, close the bottle to protect the medicine from light and humidity. Use any remaining tablet fraction for the next administration. Shelf life of the veterinary medicinal product packaged for sale: 3 years. CONTRAINDICATIONS/SECONDAR EFFECTS Contraindications consist of states of severe hypovolemia, hyponatremia, hypokalemia. In dogs and cats the drug should be used with caution in diabetes mellitus and can make states of latent diabetes manifest. The drug should also be used with caution (like all diuretics) in severe liver failure and acute renal failure; It is contraindicated in renal and hepatic failure caused by nephro- or hepatotoxic substances. In severe liver failure, a sudden electrolyte imbalance can cause the onset of hepatic coma. In acute renal failure, the persistence of anuria contraindicates the continuation of treatment. Treatment must be suspended in the case of chronic kidney disease if oliguria and increased azotemia occur. Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to one of the excipients. See also 4.7. (Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding). NAME DIUREN 20 MG, TABLETS FOR CATS AND SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZE DOGS DIAGNOSIS AND PRESCRIPTION To be sold only upon presentation of a repeatable medical-veterinary prescription. EXCIPIENTS Rice starch, lactose monohydrate, talc, magnesium stearate. UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS Adverse reactions are essentially represented by alterations in the hydro-electrolyte balance (as generally happens with all diuretics). These disorders (hypovolemia, dehydration, hypokalemia, hyponatremia, hypocalcemia) can occur if the drug is used in very high doses or the administration is prolonged over time. Furosemide can favor the onset of alkalosis as a consequence of the urinary elimination of Cl^- and H^+, it can also cause hyperglycemia, attributable to the reduction in the peripheral utilization of glucose (hypokalemia increases the production of glucagon) and to the increase in the production of catecholamines (due to the reduction of extracellular volume). PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING Pregnancy: the use of the medicine is not recommended during pregnancy. Breastfeeding: the use of the medicine is not recommended during breastfeeding as it can inhibit lactation and is able to pass into milk.
