It is supplied in 1.25mg, 2.5mg tablets and 5mg tablets and can be sold as individual tablets or packs of 100. Each strength tablet has a different colour sugar coating. The 1.25mg tablets are red, the 2.5mg tablets are pink and the 5mg tablets are orange. The active ingredient in Felimazole is thiamazole. This can cause haemoconcentration and therefore it is important to make sure your cat has access to plenty of drinking water. The recommended starting dose for the long term treatment of hyperthyroidism is 5mg per day. The dose can then be split and a 2.5mg tablet can be given twice daily but your Vet will advise on what dosage is most appropriate for your cat.
