Indications and species of destination
* Dogs: Treatment of canine leishmaniasis.
Contraindications
* Animals with heart failure and / or liver .
Side Effects
* The toxicity of this compound can sometimes cause toxic manifestations
characterized by vomiting , prostration, myalgia and antralgias .
Route of administration
* Subcutaneous.
Posology
* Dogs is recommended to start with 1/2 dose , especially when there is reduced
renal permeability progressively increasing to the recommended dose.
* In case of intolerance , you can stop treatment and start again with lower
doses.
Therapeutic scheme :
* The recommended dose is 100 mg of N- methylglucamine antimoniate per kilogram
of body weight per day (equivalent to 0.33 ml of solution per kg per day) .
* If it is possible to administer multiple daily injections , the daily dose
may be administered as two daily injections of 75 mg of N - Metiglucamina
antimonate / kg / 12 h .
* The initial duration of treatment is 3 weeks.
* This may last 1 more week if insufficient clinical improvement is observed.
* To remove parasites,repeated treatments may be necessary .
Special precautions
• Manage under strict veterinary control.
• Treatment should be accompanied by a serological and etiological monitoring
that point the prognosis of the disease and consequently the fate of the animal.
• If diagnosed renal failure, associated symptoms should be stabilized or cured
before administration Glucantime treatment .
• Monitoring of renal function before and during treatment and monitoring of
cardiac and hepatic function during treatment is required .
